JOB SUMMARY
A Midlevel Provider is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or a Physician Assistant (PA) in the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Physician Hospital Organization (PHO) who provides quality patient care in the outpatient setting, Emergency Department, and outlying communities. The ARNP works collaboratively with primary care physicians, and the PA works under the supervision of approved physicians. The duties of the Midlevel Provider cannot be rigidly defined, but the following description characterizes common expectations of the position. The primary responsibilities may not be interpreted to prohibit functions not specifically identified.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by conducting comprehensive or episodic health assessments to include:
ï§ Obtaining and interpreting appropriate data
ï§ Demonstrating critical thinking and diagnostic skills in ordering screening or diagnostic tests or procedures
ï§ Develops and analyzes differential diagnoses that are based on clinical and laboratory data.
ï§ Prescribing medications or treatments appropriate to the diagnosis in accordance with the specific governing board for the profession
B. Instructs and counsels patients regarding physical and mental health and health promotion.
C. Communicates appropriately with collaborating/supervising physicians, other health care professionals, patients and families.
D. Provides immediate evaluation and treatment for emergency medical problems, instituting necessary procedures and directing emergency personnel in care and transport of the patient.
E. Documents clearly, consistently, in a timely manner all patient care activities and follow-up care. Codes appropriately, based on the documentation and established standards.
F. Refers patients appropriately to specialists as needed.
G. Is knowledgeable about and appropriately utilizes community services, agencies and resources for patients and their families.
H. Directs other clinic staff in the provision and execution of medical care.
I. Assures quality patient care by appropriate monitoring and evaluation and participation in CQI activities in the clinic.
J. Participates in the formal governance process of MCRHC Clinics.
K. Represents the interests of the clinic to the medical staff and other departments of the health care system.
L. Participates in the required activities of Mitchell County Regional Health Center and/or appropriate regional hospitals.
M. Participates in and assists in the development of staff educational in-service meetings and promotes the application of new knowledge relevant to the clinic.
N. Supports and abides by all health center departmental and safety policies and procedures.
O. Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy and values of Mitchell County Regional Health Center.
P. Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Clinic Director and Supervising Physician.
Q. Promotes and provides education on health and wellness to patients, families and the community.
R. Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
1. Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
a. Graduate of a Masters of Nursing program.
b. Successful completion of certification.
d. Current licensure in the state of Iowa as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
2. Physician Assistant
a. Graduate of a CAHEA approved Physician Assistant training program is required.
b. Successful completion of certification.
c. Current licensure in the state of Iowa as a Physician Assistant.
B. Experience
1. Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.
a. Demonstrated competency as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner through previous experience is preferred.
2. Physician Assistants
a. Demonstrated competency as a Physician Assistant through previous experience is preferred.
C. Special Skills, Competencies & Aptitudes
1. Board eligible or certified Mitchell County Regional Health Center privileges including ACLS, ATLS & BLS
2. Excellent verbal and written skills are required, including ability to work with a team.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
A. Must be able to physically assist with patient care activities.
B. Must be able to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time throughout the day.
C. Must be flexible since the position is subject to interruptions and changes in work priorities.
D. Occupational exposure to hazardous/toxic substances, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens and other infectious waste.
